Maintenance, Remediation, and Refactoring

Fixing vs Rewriting

We've saved a few clients many tens of thousands of dollars in development work by recommending they scrap plans to rewrite from scratch in favour of making a few simple changes to get the old software up and running again.

If new software provides no significant benefits over the old software, other than being new and working better, remediation and refactoring may provide you with better value.

Most times with older software, we find it is the data structure causing problems. Some simple design changes may be all that's necessary to fix it. You can use the savings of time and money to make improvements to other systems where you will get more value.
